Celebrating Armistice 100 on legislature grounds

The Armistice 100 Tribute will begin at 11 a.m. with a 21-gun salute by the 20th Field Regiment, Royal Canadian Artillery.

From 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the Capital Plaza, 108 Street & 99 Avenue NW, Lord Strathcona’s Horse (Royal Canadians) Mounted Troop will ride in First World War uniforms. There will be displays of modern military vehicles including a Leopard tank, historical interpreters in First World War uniforms, a Poppy Labyrinth, Memory Wall and a 16-foot replica of the Menin Gate, the memorial to British and Commonwealth soldiers that stands today near Ypres, Belgium.

Inside the Federal Building (9820 107 St NW), the public can visit military and historical displays and a new exhibit on the 1918 Spanish Flu, In Flew Enza, in the Borealis Gallery.

A formal tribute ceremony will take place at 1 p.m.

Admission to all aspects of the event is free.    

The east lane and east sidewalk of the High Level Bridge will be closed for the duration of the 21-gun salute on Sunday from 11 a.m. to noon.

99 Avenue will be closed between 107 Street NW and 108 Street NW from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. to accommodate vehicle display, a horse corral and food trucks during the Armistice 100 Tribute.
